UNITS 5 & 6


POLITENESS: Good manners and respect for others.

RUDENESS: Bad manners and a lack of respect for others.

ETIQUETTE: Rules for behaviour in society.

NETIQUETTE: Rules for behaviour when using the internet

DIPLOMACY: The skill of dealing with people without upsetting them.

TRADITION: A belief or way of doing something which has existed for some time.

RANK: The position that someone has in an organisation, society, etc.

INTERACTION: Communication between people.

TO ADMIT: To recognise or accept something as true.

TO AGREE: To have the same opinion.

TO BOAST: To speak proudly about something you have or do.

TO POINT OUT: To make a person notice something.

TO RECOMMEND: To advise someone to do something.

TO DENY: To say that something is not true.

TO TAKE OFF: The moment when a plain stops touching the ground

TO COME ACROSS: To find by chance

TO GET AWAY: To go somewhere to rest or unwire

TO GET OFF: To leave a bus, train, plane or boat.

TO GET ON: To get onto a bus, train, plane or boat

TO SET OFF: To start a journey

TO SPEED UP: To accelerate

TO STOP OVER: to stop to sleep in a place

TO TURN BACK: to turn around and go in the opposite direction

TO SEE OFF: To wave goodbye
